چکیده

In this paper we present the findings of a study designed to test the usefulness of an ecological model containing factors believed to affect children's oral health both directly and indirectly. It has long been accepted that there are multiple factors involved in the etiology of dental disease-in this case, caries. However, most dental research uses explanatory models involving a limited range of variables. Investigators who study relationships between caries and factors in the oral cavity often use only one independent variable. Gustafsson et all studied the relationship between diet (sucrose) and caries experience. Barenie, Leske, and Ripa2 related oral hygiene to caries experience in children. Littleton, Kakehashi, and Fitzgerald3 isolated caries-inducing microorganisms from carnous lesions. Duany, jablon, and Zinner4 studied the effects of two independent variables by relating diet and oral hygiene to the oral condition of caries-free and caries-active students. Littleton, Kakehashi, and Fitzgerald5 used a three-factor model to study the relationship

بررسی ارتباط پوسیدگی دندان‌های شیری و مولر دایمی در کودکان 9 ساله

Background and Aims: First molar has an important role at individual’s dental health. Among the known risk factors, the experience of previous caries is of the best predictors for future caries. The aim of this study was to examine the association of primary teeth caries and other risk factors with the incidence of permanent teeth caries by considering the caries extent and severity. M...

School-Based Fluoride Mouth-Rinse Program Dissemination Associated With Decreasing Dental Caries Inequalities Between Japanese Prefectures: An Ecological Study

BACKGROUND Dental caries inequalities still severely burden individuals' and society's health, even in countries where fluoride toothpastes are widely used and the incidence of dental caries has been decreasing. School-based fluoride mouth-rinse (S-FMR) programs, a population strategy for dental caries prevention, might decrease dental caries inequalities. This study investigated the associatio...

Using Multiple-Variable Matching to Identify EFL Ecological Sources of Differential Item Functioning

Context is a vague notion with numerous building blocks making language test scores inferences quite convoluted. This study has made use of a model of item responding that has striven to theorize the contextual infrastructure of differential item functioning (DIF) research and help specify the sources of DIF. Two steps were taken in this research: first, to identify DIF by gender grouping via l...

Effect of an intervention based on socio-ecological model in promoting physical activity of female employees

Although active life style is one of the main determining factors of health, the level of regular physical activities in women is less than in men and even this level decreases with aging. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of an intervention based on the social ecological model on promotion of physical activity among female employees. In this study, 160 women employed at Shab...

Conditional independence of multivariate binary data with an application in caries research

For the analysis of caries experience in seven year old children we explored the association between the presence or absence of caries experience among different deciduous molars within each child. Some of the observed high associations have an etiological basis (e.g., between symmetrically opponent molars), while others (diagonally opponent molars) are assumed to be the result of the transitiv...
